How to get your business mentioned by ChatGPT and Gemini

By the Ask Naly team · Updated

AI assistants recommend businesses they can read about and that other sources mention. Make your own site easy to read and quote, answer the questions buyers ask, and earn mentions on sites the assistants already trust. There is no switch that guarantees a mention.

How assistants decide what to say

When someone asks "what is the best tool for…" or "a good plumber near…", the assistant searches, reads a handful of pages and writes an answer from them. If your pages are hard to read, vague, or not found, you are not in the material it writes from.

Step 1: make your pages readable without scripts

Many modern websites show their text only after JavaScript runs. Some crawlers read the raw page and see almost nothing. Check that your main pages contain your real text in the HTML itself: what you do, for whom and where.

Step 2: answer the questions buyers ask, directly

List the questions people ask before they buy from you, and answer each on your site in two or three clear sentences, right under the question. Then expand. Answers that start with the point are easier to quote.

Step 3: add structured data that matches the page

Structured data (schema.org) labels facts for machines: your organization, your services or product, your FAQ. Add it only for what is really on the page, and keep it consistent with your visible text.

Step 4: be mentioned where assistants look

Assistants often cite review sites, directories, industry lists, news and video. Accurate profiles on the directories that matter in your field, real customer reviews, and honest comparisons that include you all help. Buying fake reviews or spammy links does the opposite.

Step 5: allow the crawlers

Check your robots.txt and any security settings so that the crawlers of search engines and AI assistants are not blocked from your public pages.

Step 6: measure with the same questions over time

Ask the assistants the same buyer questions every few weeks and record whether you are named and which sites are cited instead. Answers vary from one sample to the next, so look at the trend across many answers, not one.

How Ask Naly measures this

Naly checks whether AI crawlers can read your site, whether you have structured data, and asks ChatGPT and Gemini the buyer questions for your business. She shows how often you are named, which competitors and sources appear instead, and what to fix first. We use it on our own site and publish how our numbers move.
